James Ebenezer Mastershad the following brothers & sisters ....
  1. John W. Masters (1856 - 1858), born England, died died at sea on voyage to Australia. (I presume that th W mentioned on the shipping records refers to the name William, as William was the name of James Ebenezer's father.)

(Angust(us) Lawson was born around 1850 in Uddevala, Sweden. He died aged 45, on 15th November 1896 at Sydney Hospital, from injuries received through falling from a bedroom window to the ground below. Could there be a link between Angust & Carl Fredrik Benson since both had been born in Sweden???
Angustus Lawson is buried in an unmarked grave at Rookwood, N.S.W., in section RRRR. To locate the grave drive along Necropolis Drive, turn into Haslem Drive at the 'T' intersection. As you drive down Haslem drive you will find section RRRR on the right hand side opposite the 'old common portion G'. Angustus is located in section 392. If you walk east between sections RRRR & MMMM till you come to the 8th row. Walk down the 8th row & between marked graves (388-Wilmott) and (397-Beukers) you will find the grave.
  6. Caroline Sarah Masters, known as 'Cary' born 1873. She lived at Condobolin, N.S.W.. I was advised that she died she died in the Tram (waiting) shed/room at Central Railway, well before 1937, probably around 1905.

James Ebenezer Masters 2 1888-1928

Farmer Killed By Horse

James Ebenezer Masters was the second, son of James Ebenezer Masters, the first. The following is extracted from a local Victorian newspaper. He was actually 40 years old, not 35 or 36 when he died.

Mossiface Fatility

James Masters, farmer, at Mossiface, died in the Bairnsdale hospital on Tuesday morning, a few minuits after admission, suffering from hoemorrhage of the head as the result of a kick from a horse.

Early on Tuesday the deceased was at work on his farm at Mossiface, and was engaged in harrowing, using seven horses for the purpose. One of the horses was a young one and had only recently been broken in, and was somewhat fractous, causing an entanglement in their harness. Masters went to adjust them, when his young horse lashed at him with its heels, which struck him on the back of the head, rendering him unconscious. Fortunately the incident was witnessed by some pea pickers who were close by and Dr. Andersin, of Bruthen, was immediately communicated with. He arrived a few minuits later on the scene and hurried the injured man to the Bairnesdale hospital but he succumbed to his injuries a few minuits after admission. Dr. Anderson gave the certificate.

Much regret was felt thrughout the district at the sudden visitation of such misfortune to the masters family, for the late Mr. Masters was highly respected and extremely popular in the district. He was between 35 and 36 years of age, and leaves a widow and three young children to mourn their sad loss. the deceased gentleman was a returned soldier, and at Bruthen cemetary on Wednesday afternoon a semi-military funeral was accorded him by the Bruthen branch of the returned soldiers' league, and a large number of members of which were in attendance. A most impressive burial service was conducted by the Rev. Benn, at the conclusion of which the last post was sounded by Mr. W. D. Dowe, of "Every Week," Bairnsdale.

The coffin bearers were Messrs. C. Sheppard, W. Terrill, S. Harman, and Alberts; and the pall bearers messrs. A. E. Thexton, A. G. Terrill, T. Terrill (sen), J. W. Kleinitz, R. Beite and H. Froud.

The funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. G. H. Vickers.
