    My Family Connection to Cornamuckla, Co. Longford

    My great great grandparents were Thomas MILLS and Catherine HEWITT. Thomas MILLS and Catherine HEWITT were married 29 Oct 1844 in the Forgney Church, where their children were baptised. My great grandfather Stephen MILLS was born 21 Apr 1845 in Cornamuckla and baptised 25 Apr 1845 at the Forgney Church. Stephen emigrated to Australia about 1866.

    Thomas MILLS is listed on the Griffiths Valuation for the town of Cornamucklagh, Parish Forgney, Co. Longford in 1854. Ordinance Map ref. S 27 "7 a Thomas MILLS Immediate Lessor: Trustees R. B. Deverell, House, Offices and Land 15 acres, 0 rods, 11 perches. Rateable Annual Valuation Land £ 12-0-0 Buildings £ 1-5-0 Total Annual Valuation of Rateable Property £ 13-5-0".

    Cornamuckla is between Ballymahon and Moyvore, almost in the County of Westmeath. The farm of Thomas MILLS is still in the MILLS family today.
