GREVILLE

Name as recorded by Griffiths: Foulke S Greville Fulke Southwell Greville was Born Feb 1821, second son of Algernon Greville of North Lodge, Barnet, Herts, and a lineal descendent of the 5th Baron Brooke. He married, Apr 1840, Rosa Emily Mary Anne, da. and heir of George Thomas John Nugent, 1st Marquess of Westmeath and in consequence, in 1866, took by royal licence, the surname, Nugent. He was M. P. (Liberal) for co. Longford 1852-69, in December 1869 he was created 1st Baron Greville, Lord Lieut. of co. Westmeath 1871-83. He died at Clonyn Jan 1883 and was succeeded by his son.

Griffiths (1852) records Greville as 'immediate leasor' in the co. Cork parishes of Clonpriest, Ightermurragh, and Mogeely but some of these lands were sold to Henry L Young in the late 1860s. In 1871, on the death of his father-in-law, the Marquess of Westmeath, Greville inherited the whole of his considerable estate which by 1881 consisted of: co. Westmeath 9,873 acres
co. Roscommon 3,990 acres
co. Cavan 1,970 acres
co. Longford 1,236 acres
co. Cork 451 acres
co. Kent 1,178 acres

The principal residence was Castle Clonyn, co. Westmeath (1876 landowners, in the co. Cork section, incorrectly gives his address as Cloyne Castle)

Estate records: Estate records of the Nugent family are held by the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland but there do not appear to be any relating to the co. Cork property.
