Some further comments from Amy:

For those of you just starting out who may be familiar with Griffith's Valuation of Ireland, the kinds of records mentioned by Laurie (above) are invaluable in tracing your family. This is not Griffith's but a later series of valuations. In this kind of series you can follow the rental or ownership of land through a family. Worth looking up and the LDS have them for most areas of Ireland. Of course you have to know WHERE the family land was!

If you're interested but you don't have land in Bantry, you can enter one of these film numbers into the LDS computer and it will give you the grouping from which it came. You can then find your community it (hopefully!)
