"Sing & Sign With Me" Book

The "Sing & Sign With Me" book aims to highlight the pleasure and beauty of combining sign language with songs in a simple to follow format. It is fun and easy to learn with no previous experience necessary.

This beautifully designed book contains 26 songs and nursery rhymes used in early childhood settings. Each of the songs is accompanied with the melody and signs. With each song the opposite page has a larger version of each sign together with easy to follow instructions on how to do each sign.

Elysha enjoys this video very much. It is not a teaching guide (more an enjoyable watching experience for special needs children) as the sign is done as in the deaf community and sometimes a number of different varients on a sign are also done. The bottom half of the screen shows the book. The top half shows a deaf person telling the tale in Auslan and voice over is in correct English. Beautiful to watch and truly enjoyable. I have no problem recommending this video.

Written by Trevor Johnston.This book is a dictionary and has over 5,000 sign language graphics. Most graphics having a written meaning of the sign. There is no written description on how to do the sign. Signs of Australia Dictionary is laid out in hand shape order not alphabetical order. There is an alphabetical index in the front. The author offers a comprehensive description of the history of Auslan and its linguistic characteristics.

"Makaton Nursery Rhymes" Video or DVD
Available through Variety Club Tasmania. This video is beautiful and bright with lots of great nursery rhymes put together with sign language. Celebrities your children may recognise - Humphrey Bear, Blinky Bill, Monica, Peter Coombe and many more. This video got plenty of use at our house and was a favourite for quite a while for Elysha. Some songs are done as more natural gesture and some are full on sign. Though using Auslan signs they are used in correct word order.
